While covering the 1999 Erotica USA convention in New York for TalkingBlue.com, contributing reporter Marc Simms sat down with porn superstar Juli Ashton for a one-on-one interview:
Juli Aston has got to be one of the prettiest, sexiest, and downright hottest Adult Performers working today. Her sex appeal is matched only by her own inner beauty and a relaxed friendliness and down to Earth attitude that many Adult Film Stars could learn from.
I interviewed Ms. Ashton during her break at The Erotica USA '99 Show in New York City. We spoke on a terrace overlooking the Hudson River behind the Javit's Center.

Q:Ms. Ashton, or may I call you Juli? What made you decide to quit being a schoolteacher and pursue a career in the Adult Entertainment Industry?
Juli: Yes, of course you can call me Juli. I was teaching Junior High and I knew that wasn't for me. I only taught a year. I wasn't very good at it so I had worked as a waitress in a club to put myself through college and I met some stars like Shayla LaVeaux and Alexis DeVille and I was a big fan and just started researching it and discovered it was something I enjoyed.
Q:I read in an Internet bio that Juli says her nastiest off-camera sex came "when I had two male friends over and we ended up in my bedroom and I was tied down on my stomach with a mask on and they both fucked me." Is this true?
Juli: Yes that's true. (She laughs.) That is true.
Q:Are you an exhibitionist? Are you into bondage? Do you consider yourself submissive or dominant on and off the camera?
Juli: I am an exhibitionist, absolutely. I've dabbled with bondage in my private life. I enjoy it. It's not like I am an expert or anything, but I have never done it on film. For the majority of the time I think I am submissive.
Q:Is there anything you refuse to do on or off camera and do you pick the guys and girls you work with?
Juli: I've always picked the guys and girls I work with. The only things I don't do in my personal life or on film is children, violence, and animals.
Q:Are you single?
Juli: I've been divorced four years now and so I'm pretty much married to my career right now.
Q:Have you mentored any new stars/starlets?
Juli: I'm in a management group called Risqué Business and there's me and Shayla LaVeaux, Nikita and a new girl. So as they come in it's a great family because they get the advantage of learning from us as the new girls come in we take them under our wing.
Q:Have you ever had any enhancements to further your career?
Juli: Yes. Before I got into the industry I got a breast enlargement and my nose has been fixed.
Q:Is your family more comfortable with your career now?
Juli: They're much more comfortable now that they see I am successful. I have my own home. I have my own business. I'm okay. At the beginning there were a little afraid for me, but they see that I am safe and healthy so they are okay with it.
Q:How do you like New York City and why are you here today?
Juli: I love the energy of New York, but before I came here over the weekend before I was lobbying for California's First Amendment rights so I'd like to see every state have a lobbyist for The Free Speech Coalition.
Q:How did you get involved with Trey Parker and Matt Stone for Orgasmo? Are you a fan of "South Park?" Is there any other mainstream films you have appeared in or will appear in?
Juli: I got involved in Orgasmo because their producers knew who I was and wanted me in the film and that is how I met them. I am a huge fan of South Park. They are great guys. That's the only mainstream film I've done so far.
Q:Can you tell me about how you came to be involved in Playboy and Nightcalls?
Juli: I was doing this show for Playboy called "Sex Under Hot Lights" where they highlight different adult stars and the director of that had heard about the auditions for "Night Calls" so he sent my bio and things down for me and I got an audition. I must have done well in that audition.
Q:I once caught an episode of "Night Calls" where you fulfilled a woman's dream by making love to her and then inviting Peter North to partake. The woman was extremely sexy and looked too good to be an amateur. Was she an actress or an amateur?
Juli: She is absolutely an amateur. We still keep in touch, but she lives in a small town in the Mid-West and that was her only screen appearance. An unedited version is on "Essentially Juli." That's the first movie I produced under my own company, Ashton Views.
Q:Can you tell me about the experience with the college guy you went out with and subsequently had fun with that I saw on one of your web sites?
Juli: He wrote me and asked me to go to his Spring Formal and so Shayla and I said sure and we flew out and took them to dinner and went to their formal with them and we had a good time.
Q:Who are the guys you love to work with the best and why? Girls?
Juli: Shayla is my bestfriend. All the Risqué girls. They are closest to my heart because they are part of my family. I like all the guys. It's a professional relationship, so I don't have any favorites.
Q: What is your favorite sexual position/act and do you like facials? Does cock size matter to you?
Juli: My favorite sexual position is anal on my stomach. Cock size does not matter at all and, yes, I enjoy facials very much.
Q:Does your on screen sex life effect your performance in your private life and vice versa?
Juli: I don't think that it does anymore. I think that in the beginning, I think that it made me a little wilder in my private life, but now I think I am kind of the same all the time.
Q:Where do you see the adult entertainment industry heading as we enter the next millennium?
Juli: I see it cycling back to the times when it was on film. There is so much product out there right now, but it is also becoming more readily available through the Internet, so I think that when it gets to the point that you can download a movie from your TV via satellite because that's where it is going to go, the public is going to demand more quality again.
Q:What is on your agenda for the future?
Juli: I have a production deal with Playboy so I do a lot of things for them. My web site "Club Juli" and also "Adult Diary" and I think that is mainly the focus of where I'm heading. The Internet and my production company.
Q:What advice do you want to give to men and women who want to be in porn?
Juli: Make sure this is what you want to do because even if you put out one it will change your life. Somebody out there might see it so just make sure that this forever. You can't take it back after you've done it and ask a lot of questions. People will tell you. Don't go into it blindly.
Q:Can you leave a message for the fans that you would like to impart?
Juli: Spread the joy. Sex is love and it is a positive force out there and to use it wisely, but spread that joy.
