Deconstructing Jenna

By Dave Michaels

Without a doubt, the most prominent star in the porn star universe for the last several years has been Jenna Jameson.

For years closely affiliated with Wicked Pictures, the company that put her on the map, it could be argued that, inversely, Jenna put Wicked on the map, turning the small video distribution into one of the industry's biggest and most influential forces.

Y2K may well have been a major turning point in Jenna's career.   She started 2000 off with a photo calendar that was touted and crosspromoted on cable TV's E! Entertainment Television.  Her numerous appearances on The Howard Stern Show and E! Wild On continued to play in repeats, bringing in some of the highest rated shows for both programs.

Jenna's brief marriage to Wicked Picture's contract director Brad Armstrong dissolved, although the two would maintain an awkward working relationship with Armstrong directing most of Jameson's biggest movies.

After a brief sabbatical away from movies, Jenna returned to Wicked to film "DreamQuest", an epic fantasy movie that would satisfy the terms of Jenna's contract with the company.

Visitors to the set reported that tempers frequently flared during shooting, resulting in an inflated budget, re-writes and re-shoots that took several months to complete the picture.  The movie would later come out and become a very hot seller for Wicked, garnering many strong reviews.

Following the movie, Jenna went on to the road, dancing at adult cabarets across the country.  Maintaining a breakneck schedule, Jenna frequently became the subject of a number of Internet postings claiming that the fiery actress was temperamental and unreliable.

During this time, Jenna became romantically linked with porn director Justin Sterling.  The two announced plans to marry, open a restaurant/coffee shop in Arizona, and establish a new official website for Jenna.

In August, Talking Blue's Dave Michaels conducted this interview with Jenna:

TalkingBlue: I'm glad we are on speaking terms again. I know we upset you a while back. The fans reading this don't know what we are talking about, and some things can be left to the imagination.

Jenna: water under the bridge...

TB: So how are things in the desert? I hear you opened your own restaurant now.

Jenna: Yes, it's a great place to hang out... All my friends party there, I have to be careful about saying the name, it's starting to get too crowded!!!

TB: What made you decide to open a restaurant, and why there?

Jenna: The chance came up to buy it, and I thought it would be a fun venture... I turned out to be right!

TB: Before I keep asking you the personal stuff, let's first get some of the "industry" stuff out of the way. Last we saw each other, you were working on your final film for Wicked Pictures, "Dreamquest". How do you feel it turned out? Were you happy with the final product?

Jenna: Surprisingly, I thought it was incredible! It was such a long shoot, you end up losing sight of what your doing. I just wanted to finish it. It is, by far, one of the best films I've ever made!

TB: I noticed a lot of tension on the set. You were having "words" with the director. Was is just the fact that a lot of press was there and it was such a big expensive shoot?

Jenna: Well, that is a touchy subject... Brad and I don't get along very well, he had said some things he shouldn't have said. And I'm not one to stand there and be abused!   I also hate being directed in a sex scene, I think you should let it flow, that is how you get the hottest scene possible.  That's why we are there, right? To make it hot.

TB: So was that REALLY the final film you are doing with Wicked, or do you plan on making a "comeback" with the company.

Jenna: I will now be releasing all my own scenes on my website.   I never quit, I hate comeback kids!  I will be releasing a new interactive DVD soon. Look for that!

TB: Do you plan on ever working with a company again, or are you just going to do special video stuff exclusive for your website. Which brings me to the next question of, it that the only way we can see Jenna anymore is through your website?

Jenna: I will still be doing promotional stuff for Wicked, I love them. But, the only hardcore scenes I will be doing is for my site

TB: What do you think about the whole "JennaVision" on the internet?

Jenna: "JennaVision"? I haven't heard about that. What are you talking about?

TB: I'll email you the info, tell me afterwards what you think.

JennaVision, a web content provider prominently featuring Jenna Jameson videos and images, was established by Jenna's contract company, Wicked Pictures.  According to Jameson, she does not receive compensation or participates in any of the profits from the site.

When contacted for comment, an employee of Jenna's explained that Jameson was unavailable as she was currently on tour, but that she was "VERY unhappy" with Wicked and that she felt "(it) was like family betraying her".

TB: Tell us a little bit about your site. It's been being worked on for quite awhile. When can we expect to see you up and running?

Jenna: Well, I wanted to go in a different direction than what you normally see on most girls' sites. It gets boring after awhile! First, I started compiling new photo shoots and scenes. Then, I thought of a lot of different things people want to read about. Plastic surgery, before and after pix, Q&A, and video of procedures. Relationship advice. Toy evaluation. Music and movie reviews. Interviews with girls in movies and on the road. Live news broadcasts from me. Never before seen early pix of me. A real bio, one that talks about the real "Jenna"! And there is SO much more! I want to give my fans what they want, a constantly changing site! I'm so excited about this, I can hardly contain myself!

TB: Any mainstream stuff we can look forward to you doing soon? Heard you were going to do more TV and films.

Jenna: I will be appearing on an episode of the Family Guy very soon. It's hard for me to do that stuff because I'm so busy with the site!

TB: Back to the personal stuff. I heard you are married or are getting married. Who's the lucky guy?

Jenna: Justin Sterling

Since the time of this interview, Jenna and director Sterling are reported to have broken up, although the two maintain a professional relationship with Sterling acting as Jenna's business manager.

Reportedly, Jenna is currently involved with the lead singer of the rock band Godsmack.

TB: You were married before to Wicked Picture's director, Brad Armstrong. What is going to be different in this marriage that's going to make it last this time around?

Jenna: There is a mutual respect between us. He loves me for me, doesn't try to change me. It also helps that he thinks I'm the most beautiful girl in the world, and, in turn, is extremely faithful. As am I!

TB: How did you two meet and what made you decide to take the plunge again?

Jenna: I met him 5 years ago, he used to own a studio we would film my movies at.   We didn't like each other very much, he thought I was a brat and I thought he was arrogant. We saw each other again two years ago at the Playboy Wet N' Wild party.  I had my buddy Jill Kelly go over to him and tell him that I was interested in him. Since, we were both newly single, it all fell together!

TB: Do you still dance often on the road and can we see you anytime soon?

Jenna: I'll send you my schedule... Can you belive I don't even know it? Lol!

Jenna never sent the schedule, but a listing of her appearances was later issued to another adult news news site for posting.

TB: Do you still co-own the nightclub in LA called Scamps?

Jenna: NO! I pulled out. Never go into business with family!

TB: A couple of more personal questions. What did you think of the way Wicked Pictures hired on so many contract girls towards the end of your stay there, going the route of Vivid?  Did you like it or did you think they should have stayed with the exclusive one or two girls thing?

Jenna: Wicked was in a period of change. Steve knew I was leaving, and he decided to try something different. Whether or not it's working for him, I don't know. I hope it does, I wish nothing but the best for Wicked. My loyalty will always be with them...

TB: What do you think of the new Wicked and it's new direction it has taken all-together.

Jenna: It's definitely not as personal as it used to be, and I miss that. But, everything has to grow. I think Brad and Cynthia Willis have done a great job with their campaigns.

TB: If you could do it all over, what would you have done differently? Would you wish you've gone to another company, maybe stayed freelance, maybe never did porno all together?

Jenna: I wouldn't change a single thing... I was blessed!

Although not under an exclusive contract with the company, it was recently revealed that Jenna has just completed shooting an interactive DVD for New Sensations and that she would be signing for the company at this year's Adult Entertainment Expo in January.

According to one report, Jenna does two scenes for the DVD, a solo masturbation and a girl/girl sex scene, and was said to have been paid in the neighborhood of $30,000.00 for the project.

TB: The last couple of years, within the industry, you have started to get a reputation as being difficult to work with. Yes, many in this industry are jealous of your fame and also tend to spread rumors about you that are uncalled for. You now have an "open forum". What would you like to say to your fans, your enemies, or any people in the industry in general, that have perceived you in a bad light?

Jenna: Well, it definitely hurt me, since I worked so hard to change the way people perceived "porno girls". And then have them turn around and say such horrible things about me. I have many true friends in the business that know the real me, and they know it's untrue. I always go the extra mile for everyone, and it sucks that no one reports on that. Only when I'm sick, or twisted my ankle and can't perform. Everyone has bad days, especially when you have as much on our shoulders as I do. I feel the pressure every minute of the day, to be "ON". It gets difficult after awhile, to keep giving. I wish some of my so called critics could come on a 6 week tour with me, and see how well they hold up! But, all in all, I've gotten a lot of support from my friends and fans, and that is what keeps me going...

TB: Are you going to vote, and for what party?

Jenna: Yes, democrat

TB: Can you go in public anymore without being recognized?

Jenna: No, it feels weird. To hear people whisper or freak out.

TB: Final question, do you still love Taco Bell?

Jenna: I have to watch my weight more now, so I only eat it on special occasions!

TB: Take care, Jenna.  I hope we can do this again. Thank you for taking time out to do this.

Jenna:Anytime guys, keep out of trouble! - Love You!
