Sex Ad Lands Newspaper in Hot Water

The Vancouver Sun reports that a local woman has filed a lawsuit against a local newspaper after her phone number was incorrectly listed in a sexually-suggestive ad for a "hot girl" who provided massage services.

Evelyn Lutchmaya says that her phone was flooded with "hot-and-bothered" callers who mistakenly called her home number looking for a full contact, total body massage, after the Westender newspaper listed her phone number in a January edition and again in it's April edition.

The ad ran in the female escort section and gave full body measurements for a woman identifying herself as "Tiffany".  The ad went on to describe "Tiffany" as "sexy and Swedish".

One of the digits in Tiffany's phone number was misprinted, resulting in the unwarranted phone calls to Ms. Lutchmaya.

Lutchmaya, an airline employee, says that for more than a week she was getting about 25 calls a day, at all hours, from men looking for "some action".

"It was extremely stressful and aggravating and annoying to basically have my telephone number out there in public. I felt that in this day of technology, anyone could have tracked down my address with my phone number," Lutchmaya said.

"Anyone could be knocking on my door at 2 a.m."

After contacting the newspaper to alert them to the error, Lutchmaya decided not pursue the matter when the ad did not appear in the following issue.   She did, however, file a report with the local police.

In late April, the phone started ringing again when the Westender mistakenly re-ran the ad featuring Lutchmaya's home phone number.  This time she changed her phone number and retained an attorney.

"It happened once, I was upset. ... But I think now it is totally unacceptable that they've made the same mistake," she said.

The lawsuit claims that the ad defamed and libeled Lutchmaya, causing her to suffer loss of respect, financial loss and psychological injury.
